Dorothy Alice Mead ScottDorothy Scott of Longmont died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999 at Life Care Center in Longmont. She was 95.

She was born at her family homestead in Highlandlake on Sept. 12, 1904, the daughter of Malcolm and Florence Baker Mead. Her parents were members of pioneer families in the Longmont area.

She attended grade school at Highlandlake until it was consolidated with the Mead school system. She graduated in 1923 from Mead High School (Mead Consolidated schools), one of 13 students in the first class to graduate from the school.

In 1925 she earned a degree in education from Colorado Teacher's College in Greeley. She then taught in the Ault and Lafayette school systems for three years. Subsequently, she opened Milady's Beauty shop on Main St. in Longmont, where it was located for many years. She later relocated the business to her home, operating it until 1963.

For many years, she resided at 730 Kimbark St. known as the Baker House (this by the way was the home her mother was born in and her grandparents built in the early days of Longmont).

She was a member of the Columbine Chapter 11 Order of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Jerry Scott.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Mead Jensen of Mead; a nephew, Lawrence Jensen and his wife Millicent of Longmont; and four nieces, Anita Schwarz and her husband John of Detroit, Joan Thompson and her husband Bill of Tucson, Ariz., Judy Sargent of Lakewood, and Linda Spurlock of Scottsdale, Ariz.

Memorial services will be held at 10 am, Monday, Sept. 27, at Howe Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Joyce Curtis officiating.

No visitation is scheduled, and cremation will be held at Howe Mortuary and Crematory in Longmont.
