excerpts from the Longmont Ledger's Highlandlake Column 1895

The following are extracts from the 1896 Longmont Ledger. They are just highlights taken from the columns by the late Pat Eckman in the early 1980s, and should not be considered complete transactions of the Highlandlake column.

Longmont Ledger - 1895

January 16:

Mr. and Mrs. George Davis of Longmont celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the home of J.B. Thompson.

March 1:

Mr. Craig has bought the south half of the R.S. True farm. R.S. True is now living in the house lately vacated by C.O. Upton.

Miss Bumstead, who has been sick for some days, is recovering.

The banquet planned for Feb. 22 was indefinitely postponed on account of the sickness of the pastor.

The young men's club, "THe Highland Helpers," desirous of being helpful indeed, have $25 for the debt on the parsonage.

The roads and bridges are being very much improved in this vicinity.

Monday was quite an exciting day as the election of a new school board was to take place. There were two tickets put up as follows: first, Mr.(Doctor) P.M. Mead, president, Mr. R.S. True, secretary, Mrs. M.M. Johnson, treasurer,; Second, Mrs. F.P. Waite, president, Mrs. F. P. Woodley, secretary, Mrs. M.M. Johnson, treasurer. Fifty-two votes were cast, 41 for Mrs. Waite, 40 for Mrs. Woodley, and 47 for Mrs. Johnson. The flag was raised and the election passed off very harmonious. And now we have an entire woman board.

Our pastor has been called to Denver to attend special meetings this week.
