The Highlandlake Pioneer Cemetery is owned by Historic Highlandlake

 

The first known burial in the Highlandlake Cemetery was in 1878. The cemetery association was formally created in 1880 when the land was sold by C. A. Pound to the association. The cemetery association dissolved in 1906, however, many of the records continued to be kept by what is now known as the Historic Highlandlake as well as descendants of the original trustees. We have placed links on this page to all the known original cemetery records. As more information becomes available, we will post it here.

Original Bylaws of the Highlandlake Cemetery Association 

1. The officers of this – the Highlandlake Cemetery Association – shall be a President, Secretary and Treasurer, whose duties shall be the same as devolve upon like officers in other corporations. In the absence of the President or Secretary, a chairman or Secretary pro tem may be elected by the Trustees present.
    

2. A majority of the Board shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business.
    

3. A Trustee shall be appointed by the Board, who shall have full power to execute Deeds for Lots in the Cemetery of this Association under such regulation of this Association under such regulations as may from time to time be adjusted.
    

4. The Capital Stock of the Association shall be Five Hundred Dollars, and shall be divided into fifty shares of Ten Dollars each.
    

5. The Board of Trustees may appoint a Sexton to take charge of the cemetery grounds, see that the fences, and ditches are kept in repair, the trees and shrubbery of the company properly cared for, and to do and perform such other labor as may be assigned to him from time to time. He shall receive such salary or other compensation as may be agreed upon and shall be subject to removal at the will of the Board.
